"Crafts" - Training of children
from the Doganovo Village Home

The project "Crafts" as part of the Mobile Academy "Start in Life" has been financed by the American Foundation for Bulgaria since 2006.

The project aims at training children at the age of 12 and above from the Doganovo Home for orphans in sewing, weaving, knitting and other related skills.

In 2007 the period of training was extended form three to six months. The instructors are qualified specialists in the field of design, fashion, weaving and textile - people, highly motivated to work with the disadvantaged children.

The 2006 project ended with the producing of 10 traditional costumes combined with modern elements, which were presented and sold at a fashion show. These were presented by the AFB scholarship students at its Yearly meeting in January 2007.

Beside the traditional costume the children make martenitsi, necklaces, belts, bags and other accessories and ornaments made of natural materials.
